Re: Christianity in India

<!-quote-!>quote:
...

As a former Catholic I know in what little esteem the Church holds Hinduism and Buddhism with all their great sages and yogis. Christianity, like Islam, sees tolerance not as a virtue to be emulated but as a weakness to be exploited. Were Christians to really honor Hinduism as a valid religion all Hindu-Christian hostility could easily come to an end. As long as Christians hold that theirs alone is the True Faith and are working to convert the members of other religions in one way or another, they should not be surprised if members of other religions do not welcome their presence.

It is only a matter of time before missionary Christianity is seen for what it is-imperialism in the name of God and Christ, the proverbial wolf in sheep's clothing. It is a political, worldly movement with little spirituality in it. Unfortunately such Christians confuse the real Divine work, which is improving ourselves through introspection, with the institutional work of imposing a single belief upon all humanity. This political view of religion has no place in the global age of consciousness that is dawning in enlightened minds all over the world today. The quicker it comes to an end, the better it will be for all humanity.

...<!-/quote-!>

http://www.burningcross.net/crusades/crusade-in-in dia.html

This piece, offers some reasons why India is hostile to Christianity. It has deep historical roots, the hostility. How around that hostility, pure motives to save people must be demonstrated.

An interesting read how Christianity is perceived to be imperialistic.

Re: Christianity in India

Good Post Bob. A religion that holds to a "God and Country" mantra, whose pulpits have become political launchpads for political ideals and recruiting houses to fill the ranks of the military, has lost it's way. It' God or Country. God's people are of a different Kingdom. Our warfare is spiritual, and by this we are delivered and we free the captives through ministry. Christianity doesn't come in a uniform backed by high tech weaponry. It comes in a Spirit, gentle and easy to be entreated. Christians do not involve themselves in the affairs of this world, not even as combat medics(patching guys up so that they can go kill again). Jeasus says "let the dead bury the dead".

Re: Christianity in India

There are organizations who are having some success in reaching the lowest of the low in India, take a look at Dalits: From Fatalism to Hope. This organization was founded by an Indian native and utilizes native missionaries.

To learn more about this ministry please visit Gospel For Asia.

Re: Christianity in India

Nothing quite so timely as 150 year old news! Christianity has a long history of either baptizing or killing the natives of countries they invaded: Central and S.America, western U.S., Phillipines, and more.

Often, westernization went hand-in-glove with religion, and all traces of a culture's former practices were eradicated: dress, worship, rituals. The conquered were subdued and made to obey. Wonderful form of proselytization!

Re: Christianity in India

The info was given to help with the back ground of the current attitude in India. Notice:

<!-quote-!>quote:
Indians are demanding answers from Antonia Sonia Maino Gandhi
The country demands answers to the following questions from Antonia-Sonia-Maino-Gandhi:

This is the latest (posting in Dharmabhoomi.blogspot.com) in the series…exposes a nexus between the Adventists, Super PM Sonia, Dummy PM Manmohan, MHA, Ambassador Ronen Sen, Mavelikara MLA Murali and Kerala CM Chandy, not to leave out Y Samuel Rajasekhar and the hundreds of crypto-christists that are destroying Bharatvarsha. Jesus is fast returning. The likes of Ron Watts are working hard, with his coterie pulling the strings behind scenes. Bharat is now up for grabs. Beware. Congress I (or) Cong Cross I? Read all the wonderful things Antonia is doing to this great country (our Bharath):

Excerpts:
------------------------

**Just make a list of the christists and crypto-christists who have suddenly gained prominence (in India) under super-PM, Antonia’s rule. You will understand the profitability of being a christist in India that has been engulfed by the dark shadows of this most dangerous lady.
<!-/quote-!>

http://intellibriefs.blogspot.com/2005_08_07_archi ve.html

It appears that if the poor are helped, so India is relieved of that burden, and the tithing given to churches doesn't make it a profitable venture, then the Indians don't mind the Christian presence, eh???

At times Christians have been welcomed with open arms, however, as the Indian Hindu and Moslems see it as robbing converts and money, then they see it as an Immigration issue.
