Tithing Debate: FREE BOOK!!!

http://www.tithingdebate.com/

A Theologian's Conclusions about a Taboo Doctrine. This is a free downloadable book about tithing written by Russell Earl Kelly, PH.D. Kelly did his PH.D. on tithing, and the results are mind blowing. Compared to the guilt based and often dishonest "proofs" for tithing offered by certain Christian leaders, this book is refreshingly biblical and solidly researched. Every Christian who teaches tithing should read this book, if they cannot refute its arguments then they should stop teaching a doctrine they cannot support. If your pastor teaches tithing challenge them to read this book.

Re: Tithing Debate: FREE BOOK!!!

Thanks for the great link on tithing!! I will link to it on our web site. The old SDA Forum was shut down by the SDA administrators because the issue of tithing was being challenged and refuted by us and others on the forum.

Re: Tithing Debate: FREE BOOK!!!

Note these comments about tithing and giving under the New Covenant:

<!-quote-!>quote:
Christians have a need to give, to share their resources and blessings with others. They have a duty to support the preaching of the gospel, to give financial support to their spiritual leaders, and the church needs this support. If disciples of Jesus Christ can give, but do not, they are falling short.

The old covenant required 10 percent. The new covenant does not specify a percentage, nor do we. However, the new covenant admonishes people to give what they can, and tithing still provides an instructive comparison. For some people, 10 percent may be too much. But some will be able to give more, and some are doing so. Christians should examine their own circumstances and the better blessings they have been given in the new covenant through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ for us and the gift of the Holy Spirit to us. Contributions should be given to the church for its collective work of preaching the gospel and the expenses involved in the local ministry and congregational needs.

Likewise, the new covenant does not specify any particular percentage for assisting the poor. Instead, it asks for equity — and we certainly have room for improvement in this duty.

The old covenant required simple percentages. Everyone knew how much was required. The new covenant has no set percentages. Instead, it requires more soul-searching, more training for the conscience, more selfless love for others, more faith, more voluntary sacrifice and less compulsion. It tests our values, what we treasure most, and where our hearts are.

<!-/quote-!>

http://www.wcg.org/lit/law/tithing.htm

No percentage mandated but all kinds of examples of giving to help the ministry of the Gospel.

Re: Tithing Debate: FREE BOOK!!!

Note these texts about giving in the New Covenant:

<!-quote-!>quote:
2 Cor 8:13Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. 14At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality, 15as it is written: "He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little."

<!-/quote-!>

Sort of a communal approach, so no one is in need.

Is 10% of the increase or "equality" harder to satisfy??? As usual Christianity expands rather than reduces or eliminates Christian responsibility.

Re: Tithing Debate: FREE BOOK!!!

Look Bob Sands, preachers get up and demand a tenth of the flocks wages. They claim it is Biblical. Poor people can't cut the mustard, so they leave discouraged. Those preachers are asking something that God never ask. Who do they think they are? It just proves that they have not studied that subject for themselves. In the case of Adventism that is one of many. They are merely parroting those who have gone before them.

It also proves that the prophet was completely wrong

Answer my question, why aren't you and Elaine pushing for Equality, too much like Communism or your 401K is still big enough to provide for you in your retirement, what of the person that doesn't have a 401k, what about what is taught about EQUALITY?

Re: Tithing Debate: FREE BOOK!!!

If equality was preached the poor would stay and the people that could support the church would leave, eh, is that what the end result looks like you are looking for, you and Elaine.

Re: Tithing Debate: FREE BOOK!!!

Scratching my head while trying to discern what Bob Sands posts are all about.....I must ask what "equality" has to do with the false doctrine of tithing? What does our 401Ks have to do with equality? Hmmmm! Equality and tithing hmmmmm! 401Ks, communism, retirement, equality and tithing. HELP!

Re: Tithing Debate: FREE BOOK!!!

Read the latest review to see Gordon Bietz' article on robbery: we are all robbing God if we don't pay a faithful tithe. He really lets readers have it--which means the church funds are decreasing. Which is to be expected as the recession hits everyone. Maybe they will have to reduce the top heavy administration.

Bob Shields: don't even try to make sense of what Bob2 writes. It is crazy-making. Which means that he hasn't a clue what he's thrown out, just jumbles words together.

Re: Tithing Debate: FREE BOOK!!!

Elaine doesn't like to take the Bible NT at it's word. She would rather talk about the SDA talking about tithe. The NT doesn't but talks EQUALITY. Bob Shields is playing dumb since I supplied the text that talks of the new giving way in the NT. Stop for a minute, forget about tithe and think equality as the Bible says.

(Message edited by Bob_2 on March 13, 2009)

(Message edited by Bob_2 on March 13, 2009)
