Egalitarianism:

2 : a social philosophy advocating the removal of inequalities among people
Is Capitalism or Socialism better at accomplishing this? Is it a good goal?? What does the Bible teach??

True Christianity is the only answer. Without the Holy Spirit we will never acquire equal regard for others. The poor hate the rich and the rich look down on the poor. The in between classes have their unique problems.

Capitalism certainly does not remove inequalities between people. Quite the opposite. It's only a slightly reformed version of the Roman oppresive system that sentenced Jesus to death.

Jesus certainly wasn't against the free markets. Yes he drove the money changers out of the temple, not because he was again commerce but where they were doing it. Some of Christ's parable talk of rich men, giving subordinates money to invest for them. That doesn't sound like socialism, more like capitalism.

bob_2, the parables of Jesus were... parables! They were not meant to endorse or criticise an economic system but to illustrate a point. If you mean that Jesus was not against free fruit and veg markets in villages, then you are probably right - this was how people made a living. But it would be distorting to say that by analogy Jesus would support the kind of free market economy that we know today. And to claim that we would endorse ridiculosly high CEO salaries would be simply a lie. After all, modern socialism wasn't invented back then (and even now it hasn't really been tested anywhere), but the way his Jerusalem followers lived (as depicted in Acts) suggests pure communism.
Don, what you mentioned is certainly an ethical dilemma, but exactly the same dilemma will exist whether we live in socialist or capitalist surroundings.

Jesus interacted with the rich young ruler, but he loved his money more than his Saviour. I think Jesus today would give the same test, don't you?
