Don...it wss in '67 that I was in France at our school, Collonges...and his daugh ter,Penny Hare was there..

She and I had discussions about origins, with me dumbfounded at how noah's flood could have both missed Egypts pyramids, but yet raised up the limestone portion of the Alps...in which on our Sabbath hikes, it was easy to find sea shell fossils.....a mile above sea level.

She told me her father was working on things like that, and that he had confided in her that SDAs did not understand the science of origins...

I'm wondering if his resignation from the GRI in '68 as you show was the result of his research leading to beliefs which differed from the official line.

if you run acros links to Penny today..let me know....

John,

The Wikipedia entry suggests that you may be right about the reasons Hare decided to stop working for a church institution:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoscience_Research_I nstitute

I agree. But, what brought about his rejoining of the Adventist workforce, i.e. Home Study International (1986) and Columbia Union College (1989).
.

Re: Peter Edgar Hare

I would guess GRI was an apologetic institution created to prove prior assumptions. As such, there was no room for academic freedom there. Other church institutions may be more liberal - see the recent case of La Sierra Uni.
